It’s Time to Be Real!

Do you ever wonder if people don't only see your outer self but also your inner self? Are there things in your life that you feel like others or society has urged you to cover up? Have you ever created masks that hide your true thoughts, feelings, and desires or outer self? Have you put on those masks presenting an image you hope will prove worthy to others?

When we live a life behind those masks, we are actually making a statement that we do not believe we have “real” freedom. Freedom is defined as the state of being free, independent and without restrictions, having been loosed from prison. Being free is being out in the open for all to see, having nothing to hide with no fear.

What statement are you making? Can you just be YOU?!

Have you often heard people say they spend their life just “searching for themselves”? They long to be themselves. Well guess what! God wants you to be YOU, too!

We can be ourselves and live in freedom when we choose to not deny the fact that we all have the potential to have “stuff” in our hearts and lives that are not pleasing to others or to God. We are but “human”.

How easy is it for us to cover up that “stuff” because we don’t want our loved ones, friends, co-workers, neighbours and so on to know that we don’t have it all together!? But, we don’t need the acceptance of this world nor do we need to behave according to socially acceptable conventions or standards. Romans 12:2 says “And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God”.

We do not need to establish an identity for the world. Rather, the identity we have in Christ and His acceptance and approval are all we need. And even better, we don’t even need to earn his acceptance and approval either and no matter how hard we try in life to be “perfect”, (usually by hiding behind some sort of mask) it won’t change the fact that we all are equally unable by any sort of effort to earn our favour with God. It is by His Grace and Gift of Righteousness alone.

Freedom in accepting that allows us to see that other people have the same value as ourselves as it is ONLY by the Grace of God that keeps us from being the worst of sinners. Ephesians 2:8 says “For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God”.

So it’s really ok to strip away those masks and ‪#‎BeReal, not afraid to expose those “human weaknesses” and flaws. If we all have the same value, than we can shout out to the world that we are just “human” and end the masquerade party! The Spirit of the Lord will do an awesome work in our lives where those flaws we have covered up exist. The bible says so!

2 Corinthians 3:17-18 says “Now the Lord is the Spirit; and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord”.

But, it’s pretty hard to focus our eyes on the glory of the Lord behind a mask. So …. take off the mask! Step forward with boldness. Trust God. Let the Transformation Begin.
